Something for the Ladies .....
WOMEN AND DRUMS
Hi Everyone,
I have decided to post a couple of Videos courtesy of You Tube due to the large number of inquires from ladies that would like to take up the drums, but they feel that it is mainly a male dominated instrument.
My answer is yes it is male dominated but take a look at a couple of videos of the pioneers of women drummers. The most well known being Karen Carpenter. This Video of Karen was made in the early 70s. and it clearly shows what a passion she had for the drums, and yes she plays Traditional Grip which clearly indicates a jazz background.
I am also posting a couple of videos of an up and coming french Canadian girl in her mid 20s called Emmanuelle Caplette.
The first one is just of her playing the snare drum clearly showing she has a good technique both with matched grip and also Traditional Grip,
This second video of Emmanuelle is showing her playing in different styles from Pop to Jazz to Drum and Base.
This fourth Video is to show that even Avril Lavigne is having a go at playing the drums and having some fun.
